- Introduction – Technical Aspects
Robotic surgery provides advantages to the patients undergoing the full spectrum of urologic surgery. Namely, the patient immediately benefits from minimal trauma to the abdominal wall, lesser post-operative pain, smaller risks of hemorrhage, and faster recovery times. The benefits to the surgeon are such that they indirectly translate to benefits to the patient as well. Using the robotic platform, the surgeon has a magnified, stable, 3D vision of the operating field. The use of the articulating Endo-Wrist instruments allows for unmatched precision in tissue preparation and dissection. The operations are performed by the surgeon in a comfortable, ergonomically correct position, leading to less fatigue and and elimination of natural hand tremor. The advantages of the robotic surgical platform allows the surgeon to operate at his highest potential, and aid in providing excellent post-operative outcomes for the patient. Recent literature has shown the outstanding results of robotic urologic surgery, showing that in all aspects, outcomes of robotic surgery are better or equivalent to conventional laparoscopic or open surgery.
The Robotic surgical platform has a number of technological advances built in the system, which allow a surgeon to operate at his fullest potential.
- 3D vision
- Allows the surgeon to operate in a setting that is intuitively familiar, with a high definition 3D vision of the operating field.
- The operating field is also magnified (up to 10x), revealing details that are imperceptible in conventional open surgery.
- Endowrist instruments and Intuitive motion
- Operating Ergonomics
